In 1986 Byron Katie, a 43 year old wife and mother living in California, checked herself into a halfway house to address her addictions and a debilitating suicidal depression. One morning two weeks later she awoke in a mystical state of complete joy that has never left her. In recognizing it was her thoughts that caused her suffering, she developed a simple inquiry process for questioning stressful thoughts which has helped many thousands of people over the past two decades to question and let go of their suffering. In Integral Spirituality, Ken Wilber says that Byron Katie's book Loving What Is offers "...a wonderful new set of techniques for spiritual intelligence and glimpsing causal emptiness..." In this presentation, Ben Cohen will provide participants with a brief introduction and experience of Byron Katie's Inquiry process. He'll then show how the method can be understood more fully, and it's strengths and weaknesses seen more clearly, by examining it using the elements of the Integral model -- quadrants, levels, lines, states and types. Ben Cohen became a certified Kripalu yoga teacher in 1992, and has been teaching Kripalu yoga in the Boston area since that time. He was introduced to the Work of Byron Katie about a decade ago, and for the past year has shared her Inquiry process with groups and individuals on a volunteer basis. A student of Ken Wilber's Integral Theory for the past five years, Ben recently attended the "Integral Incubator" in Boulder, Colorado to explore Byron Katie's process through the lens of Integral.

No doubt, this discussion could open up the Pandoras box of opinion in the philosophy of mind from the extremes of reductionism (that the mind is purely reducible to material and causal factors as much as is any phenomena of nature) to Cartesian dualism or immaterialism (that mind is a function or aspect of metaphysical and/or spiritual reality that inter-reacts with physical reality). But this discussion could also be a bit different. The focus of this discussion, at least initially (because our discussions invariably take on a life of their own once we get going) will not so much concern technical topics similar, for example, to those sometimes entertained by my friends over at The Boston Philosophy of Mind Group. Equivalencies or similarities with schemas of artificial intelligence are, I think, important and revealing but there is a question about how much it reveals about aspects of the mind as opposed to the brain. And pure reductionism seems to invariably reach a dead end when it comes to the existential subjectivity of consciousness. A mind means intelligent consciousness, and what it is like to be a human being and to have a human mind would seem to entail many more permutations than do questions concerning what it is like to be a bat (referencing Thomas Nagel). It is hard to think about what a mind is without also considering the meaning of such things as wisdom, self-reflection, emotion, pain, suffering, joy, free will and the relationship of all of these (and much more) to morality. Posing the question, What is it like to have a mind? opens up a vast realm of qualitative considerations as opposed the more quantitative comparisons with computers or machines. I actually believe that machines possessing minds may someday exist, but that will happen only when technology succeeds in making the linkage with consciousness that nature has evolved, in other words, a machine that knows what it is like to be what it is. That will most likely entail pain and emotion and, at more advanced levels, the mental states that are associated with the human mind. The metaphysical question of whether mind is purely reducible to material facts continues on, but I wonder if the quantitative arguments and techno comparisons sometimes lose sight of the forest for the trees. Much as arguments over the existence of God are literally hopeless and meaningless when the parties do not even agree about what the term God means, we may first need to better understand the qualitative argument of what it is to have a mind" before we can determine whether or not understanding the brain is sufficient for understanding the mind. The Executive Sales Boot Camp is a well-recognized sales seminar known for providing a systematic approach to selling and non-traditional techniques that really work. Whether youre the CEO, President,Owner or salesperson of a company that sells technology, manufactured products, financial services, tangible products or intangible services this is a boot camp you cant miss - regardless of your sales experience!
Selling is something that comes with the territory, but makes most of us uncomfortable because it goes against the grain. People spend more than sixteen years obtaining a formal education - a tremendous investment of time, energy and money. Yet, on average, these same people, professionals like yourself, have invested less than 10 hours in learning and understanding the selling process.
Our workshop leaders are all accomplished professional trainers with years of practical, real-world sales management and sales experience. They help companies achieve their goals by overcoming sales and sales management challenges and by keeping them on track with their sales goals.

INTRODUCTION TO WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE AN ESTATE PLAN WORK.
Estate Planning 103 is the second half of our full Estate Planning 101 class, for those that would prefer to participate before their day begins. How do I avoid estate taxes in light of the current complicated situation?

Our meetups will be facilitated discussion, stemming from the questions, issues, and comments that arise for you as you read through the Bible, cover to cover. The style is informal, non-judgmental, and conversational. No sincere question is too heretical to ask, but this is not a forum for people simply to rail against the Bible or for those who want to defend a literal interpretation. It is for those who sincerely want to know what is in the book and have a safe place to talk about it. It's not a Bible study per se, and it is not an attempt at conversion. The mission of MassBible is to promote biblical literacy, understanding, and dialogue. We are an ecumenical Christian organization and you can certainly expect that faith-based perspectives will often be shared by the leadership and others. But we strive for an environment that is judgment-free and open to both faith and skepticism. We'll have coffee, tea, and water here so feel free to bring a bag lunch or to stop by the Andover Newton Theological School Cafeteria next door and bring lunch from there. I look forward to meeting you!

An introduction to past life regressions. Even for the skeptic, past life regressions can be a powerful creative exercise. For others who are more open to the possibility of reincarnation this introductiory session can become a source of personal enlightenment. We'll have a discussion before the hypnotic past life regression begins and further discussion afterwards. Previous participants and others who have experienced past life regressions before may, perhaps, build on the recollections and memory fragments of earler regressions. Be open and expect the unexpected. Let the adventure begin! To continue the adventure, consider joining the Past Life Regression and Mysticism Subgroup. Over the course of four months or more, this subgroup provides an opportunity for personal growth and learning in a dynamic group setting (please refer to the schedule). This is the first meeting of the Past Life Regression and Mysticism Subgroup. This Subgroup differs from the periodically scheduled Friday Night Past Life Regression meetings, which are introductory in nature. The PLR and Mysticism Subgroup, on the other hand, will generally meet once a month and, over the course of four months or more, is an opportunity to not only experience group past life regressions but also to learn about related mystical practices and spiritual tradtions in a dynamic group setting. Each two hour meeting will include a group past life regression, but will also function as a forum for members to bring forward their ideas, experience and knowledge so that it might be shared with others. Our reading, personal practice, and learning experiences at other events or workshops may be shared with the Subgroup to provide an exciting opportunity to learn, share and grow. The PLR and Mysticism Subgroup meets once every 4 to 8 weeks. The cost of membership in the Subgroup consists of advance payment of $100 for four sessions ($25 each). It is not necessary to make payment at the same time that you RSVP, however, in order to attend this event your membership in this Subgroup must be paid and up-to-date at least one day in advance. You may pay by PayPal (via this site) or by check (email for mailing instructions). Past Life Regression and Mysticism Subgroup members receive a $10 discount off any private sessions at my office. The discount applies to any type of private session (i.e. it does not need to be used for past life regressions). The discount is good for seven months or up until the fourth Subgroup session that you attend during your current membership cycle (whichever comes first). The four prepaid Subgroup sessions must be used within twelve months or are forfeited. No refunds are issued. Membership in this Subgroup automatically renews whenever an additional block of four sessions is paid. Introductory Friday Night Past Life Regressions will continue to be offered periodically and are separate from the Past Life Regression and Mysticism Subgroup.
